The Bears waived running back Mike Davis Saturday morning Kevin White Jersey , the back announced on Twitter. As a result, the team has likely preserved a 2020 fourth-round compensatory pick for the loss of Adrian Amos over the offseason. This move is not surprising, as Davis has held a minimal role in the Bears’ offense this season. Outside of Week 1, in which he had 5 carries for 19 yards, he has had a total of 6 carries for just 6 yards all season. Before this move, the Bears did not have a draft selection in the fourth round of the 2020 draft, having traded it to move up in the third round of the 2019 draft for David Montgomery. This move gives them much-needed draft capital, as they are currently not on track to pick in the first or third rounds. The Bears lost the likes of Amos and Bryce Callahan in free agency, but their signings of players like Davis, Cordarrelle Patterson and Ha Ha Clinton-Dix nullified any compensatory picks the team could receive. Chicago now claims their fourth-rounder for losing Amos, but their fifth-round compensatory pick for the loss of Callahan will not be given to them.No corresponding move has currently been made, though the Bears have both Kerrith Whyte Jr. and Ryan Nall on their practice squad. One could assume that the team will promote one of the two running backs to give them three backs on the roster. The Bears signed Davis to a two-year, $6 million contract in March. The move will cost the team $2 million in dead cap, with $1 million carrying over into 2020.UPDATE: The Bears brought up Ryan Nall to their 53-man roster.
